News From the Lowell Folk Festival ~ July 29 -31

Direct from the Lowell Folk Festival Organizers – an update of what to expect for opening night and Saturday night parades of the festival. More information and updates as we get closer to the festival weekend:

Well, who doesn’t like a parade? And this year for the Lowell Folk Festival’s 25th Celebration, we are bringing back two of our favorite parade groups to help us celebrate.

The Worcester Kiltie Pipe Band will be with us for the kick off on Friday night from JFK Plaza at City Hall, where we will have our flag ceremony then begin the parade with kilts and pipes over to the opening night ceremonies at Boarding House Park. The Worcester Kiltie Pipe Band has won numerous awards and is such a pleasure to watch. These guys will certainly get us in the mood for our kick off!

Saturday night we will have one of our favorite parade groups, the Trinidad Carnival Parade Group that thrilled everyone three years ago with their lavish costumes and lovely steel drums. They are really something to see, and people watching the parade go by just can’t help join in and dance with them as part of the parade.

Hope to see everyone there for both parades and come dance and share in the fun as we parade over to Boarding House Park. Keep checking our website at www.lowellfolkfestival.org for more info and schedule updates for parades and more.

It seems like they’re getting later and later in publishing a sked. We like to do a full day, ideally Saturday. Copeland is fabulous and well worth a trip, but for crying out loud in a bucket, when’s she up?

I flog this weekend every year. We’ve done almost every one. It’s really the best free show in New England other than our snow.
