Alan Khazei Joins the U. S. Senate Race

Alan Khazei has told us  today on Twitter, Facebook and through the mainstream media that he is officially “in” the race for the Massachusetts United States Senate seat currently held by Scott Brown. While many others have declined to run including former Congressman Joe Kennedy, former Congressman Marty Meehan, Governor Deval Patrick,  Vicky Kennedy and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll  – he joins Bob Massie who officially announced in January. Massie has been actively campaigning speaking before city and town committees and other groups like Greater Lowell Area Democrats and Third Middlesex Area Democrats. Others “thinking about” becoming challengers  for the Democratic nomination include – Newton Mayor Setti Warren, businessman  Robert Pozen and of course the “usual suspects” – Congressmen Mike Caupano and Stephen Lynch. Also, a certain wing of the Democratic Party keeps consumer guru Elizabeth Warren’s name on the radar screen.

From the Globe MetroDesk:

Alan Khazei today officially declared he is running for the Democratic nomination for the seat currently held by Republican US Senator Scott Brown.
On his website, through Twitter and Facebook, the founder of City Year sent out the same message.

“It’s official,” he wrote. “I’m in.”

Khazei then refers people to his website, where an announcement video has been posted.

Last week, Khazei said he was still mulling the idea of taking on Brown, who was elected to succeed one of Khazei’s long-time mentors, the late Edward M. Kennedy.

Khazei ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for the seat in 2009.
