Boston Globe launches “Capital”
Inaugural front page of Globe’s “Capital” section
Today is the inaugural edition of the Boston Globe’s new weekly political section called “Capital” which the Globe describes as “the week in politics and the issues.” I’m impressed. The twelve page section is packed with substance including news stories, opinion pieces, graphs and photographs. While there are a few ads (full pagers from Stewart Health Care, Mohegan Sun Massachusetts, HumaneWatch.org and a smaller front of section ad by Century Bank) this is not the advertising insert masquerading as a news section as is often the case with these things. Coverage of the race for governor dominates the section, but there are also interesting stories about the relative influence of Massachusetts in national politics (this is the first time since 2000 without a presidential candidate from here), the soon-to-change power make-up on Beacon Hill as Governor Patrick and Senate President Murray prepare to leave office and the always interesting look at the Jeanne Shaheen v Scott Brown race for US Senate in New Hampshire.
