Lowell Walks this Saturday: East Merrimack St

Lowell Memorial Auditorium

This Saturday’s Lowell Walk will be about East Merrimack Street and all the history packed into that stretch of road. I will lead the tour which will begin at Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, 246 Market Street, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 20. The tour is free and lasts about 90 minutes.

Federal Building

From the Visitor Center, we will make our way to East Merrimack Street. There, we’ll talk about Kearney Square, the Federal Building, the Rex, Wang, Middlesex Community College, the Concord River and Pawtucket Canals, the Middlesex Mills, the Immaculate Conception Church, Christ Church United, and much more.

Perhaps the highlight of the tour will be Lowell Memorial Auditorium, including its Hall of Flags and all the historic artifacts contained within.
