Lowell City Council Meeting: October 13, 2015

A very fast council meeting tonight.

Hamilton Canal/Bus Parking

There’s an unused parcel of land controlled by the LRTA that’s adjacent to YMCA drive. The LRTA will cede its rights in the parcel (which is owned by the MBTA) to the city to be used for the parking of tour buses that bring visitors to Lowell National Historical Park. This will allow the city to move forward with the new parking garage for the Hamilton Canal District. By parking the buses elsewhere, the first floor of this new garage can be used for retail businesses which will reduce the overall cost of the garage. Because this is happening now, it should allow the garage to be completed as planned in 2018.

Motions

Motion by Councilor Samaras to encourage beautification of neighborhood business districts. Passes.

City Auditor

Councilors will submit the names of three applicants to the city clerk by this Friday. The council plans to interview the top three candidates at some time in the future.

Meeting adjourns at 7:10 pm
