It’s official! Greater Lowell Area Democrats announce that the 2014 Distinguished Democrat will be Treasurer and Receiver-General of the Commonwealth Steve Grossman. A special meeting of Greater Lowell Area Democrats was one of Steve’s first stops in his quest to become state party chair in the early 1990s. He later went on to serve as National Democratic Party Chair. Steve Grossman takes pride in the fact that while expanding the family business he inherited he always enjoyed excellent relations with his unionized employees, going several decades without a strike, lockout, or arbitration. Steve sought the gubernatorial nomination in 2002 and again in 2014. This year he was the endorsed candidate of the state convention. Members are looking forward to honoring this outstanding Democrat and longtime friend and supporter of Greater Lowell Area Democrats.
In addition, four young party activists from Greater Lowell Area Democrats member communities will be recognized as “Rising Stars” for their contributions to the Democratic Party and its candidates.
The Distinguished Democrat award honor will take place at the GLAD Annual Fall Brunch on Sunday October 19, 2014 at Lenzi’s in Dracut at 10:00am. Many elected officials, statewide and local candidates as well as past honorees are expected to attend the event including Congresswoman Niki Tsongas – herself a Distinguished Democrat honoree. Tickets are $40. Contact GLAD Chair Marie Sweeney at email@example.com to reserve a seat at the event.
