Opening night for Winterfest

Several hundred people gathered in front of Lowell City Hall this evening for the start of Winterfest 2013. After a brief opening ceremony, the Human Dog Sled Challenge commenced. Both the city council and the school committee had teams in the race. While neither of those teams will win, no city official was seriously injured after the first few heats so that’s a plus. (I wonder if pulling a dog sled is conduct “arising out of and in the course of one’s employment” for workers’ comp purposes). Winterfest continues tomorrow with a full schedule of activities.
