Golnik Nearing a Decision for a Congressional Re-Run
As I noted in a previous post – former Massachusetts State Senate Minority Leader and candidate for Lt. Governor in 2010 Richard Tisei of Wakefield has already decided to jump into the race in the 6th Congressional District currently represented by John Tierney. He’s expected to make it official next week. Tisei feels that the addition of the Greater Lowell area communities of Billerica and Tewksbury to the 6th enhances the opportunity for a GOP take-back of the district.
Now according to a post on the new Lowell Sun “Pols and Politics” blog – Republican Jon Golnik is ready to make his decision to seek a re-match against 5th District Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. His run would be in a newly configured district to be designated as the 3rd CD. While keeping the cities of Lawrence and Haverhiil, the new district would also reach west to the cities of Fitchburg, Lunenburg and Gardner as well as some adjacent towns. Golnik – like Tisei – thinks the new district configuration would help a Republican.
Moving the district west into Worcester County could improve a Republican’s chances against Tsongas, said Golnik.
“I think that historically Worcester County has been a pretty good area to run as a Republican,” said Golnik. “I think adding those towns isn’t going to hurt.”
