Cemetery tours this coming weekend
For those interested in Lowell’s cemeteries, there are several tours scheduled this coming weekend:
On Saturday, September 24 at 10 am, Dave McKean will lead his annual tour of St. Patrick’s Cemetery. More information about the tour is available on Dave’s blog, Lowell Irish.
On Friday, September 23 at 1 pm, I will lead a tour of Lowell Cemetery. The tour will depart from the Knapp Avenue entrance. It takes about 90 minutes and involves walking throughout the cemetery.
On Saturday, September 24 at 10 am, I will lead the final Fall 2011 tour of Lowell Cemetery. It will depart from the Knapp Avenue entrance. (Dave and I tried to coordinate our tours this year so we wouldn’t have them at the same time but due to circumstances beyond our control that did not happen – maybe next year).
All of these tours are free and open to the public. Please consider joining us.
Dick, I was present at the tour 2 weeks ago and found it very informative and interesting. The weather could not have been any more perfect.
Will your tour this time be identical to the same from 2 weeks ago?
Thanks for the kind words about the last tour. This weekend’s tours will cover the same ground with some minor modifications.
The Lowell Cemetery has so many interesting stories that they all can’t be covered in one ninety minute tour. Next year, I hope to split it up by season and in the spring, start from the Lawrence Street gate and cover the back half of the cemetery while in the fall, we’ll start from the Knapp Avenue gate and cover the front half.
