Rev Up for Riverfest, Saturday, June 11
Lowell Riverfest, Saturday June 11th, 2 pm to 6 pm, at Middlesex Community College and the Concord River Greenway Park
The Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust, The Cultural Organization of Lowell, and WXRV 92.5 The River radio station invite the community to join this year’s Riverfest: Culture Flows. Enjoy this festive exploration of the connections between Lowell’s rivers and canals and the communities that call our city home. The 5th annual Riverfest event is a “center of activities” for the watershed-wide Riverfest event and will feature live music throughout the day and eco-activities for the family. www.lowellriverfest.org
Riverfest: Culture Flows will feature a public art installation of over 20 murals created by over 500 Lowell students. Each mural is inspired by the various ethnic backgrounds and heritages that comprise Lowell. The murals will depict the Riverfest fish logo designed by local artist, Lineu Zadereski, who will also install a site-specific temporary sculpture for the festival. This unique and expansive public art display is made possible by funding from the New England Foundation for the Arts.
Live performances that afternoon will begin at 2:15pm with Cornell Coley and his interactive, educational drumming performance fusing African and Cuban rhythms. The bluegrass and folk trio, Bliss, will perform at 3:15 followed by a special presentation of approximately forty elementary string students from Greenhalge Elementary School. Farren Butcher, Inc. will cap off the afternoon with their rockin’ blues!
