The Globe covers crime in Lowell

On the front of boston.com and on the first page of the Globe’s Metro section today, there’s a story about efforts by the city of Lowell to counteract the gun violence that burst into the public eye with the New Year’s Eve party shootings on Grand Street, the theft of 40 guns from a house in the Acre, and the wounding of a woman on Central Street, apparently by a stray bullet.

Also, at 5 pm tomorrow night, the Safety Subcommittee of the City Council will meet regarding recent violent crime in the city and at the council’s regular meeting at 6:30 pm, the full council will be asked to authorize the renewal of a lease for space for a police substation at the Boys and Girls Club (which is not too far from Grand Street).

Also, Rob Mills’ “Police Blog” publishes a letter from the Vice President of the Lower Highlands Neighborhood Group, urging folks to attend tomorrow night’s 5 pm Safety Subcommittee Meeting at City Hall
