UML’s Meehan Seeking Suffolk Seat?

The scoopers at the Boston Herald’s InsideTrack are speculating this morning that UMass Lowell Chancellor Marty Meehan may have re-set his sites on a university presidency – this time it’s Suffolk University. Meehan who took himself off the list of candidates for the UMass presidency fanned the flames of the Suffolk rumor by attending – coincidentally or by design – a reception for the new Suffolk Law School dean Camille Nelson. Meehan – a Suffolk University alum and former member of the Board of  Trustee – spoke with the “Track” –

I’m very happy at UMass Lowell,” Meehan told the Track. “I just decided I don’t want to be a candidate for UMass president position. I’m fully engaged and happy here.”

…Which brings us back to the Suffolk reception at the Taj. Meehan insists he was just there as an active and interested alum – not as a candidate for president.

“I regularly attend alumni events and since I was initially on the search committee for the new law school dean, and I support her and the law school, I thought I would drop by and say hello,” he said.

Stay tuned as observers and pundits – supporters and those “not so much” continue to follow Marty Meehan and speculate as to will he or won’t he…  As a UMass Lowell alum, I’d like to see his contract settled and extended so that he stays “fully engaged and happy” at Lowell.
