Over at HuffingtonPost this morning – Sam Stein tells us the Independent U. S. Senator from Vermont – Bernie Sanders – is calling for a meeting with Progressives to discuss the recent recommendations of the Simpson-Bowles fiscal commission. Unhappy with the preliminary report and recommendations of the co-chairs – Sanders wants an alternative on the table.
In his “Dear Friend” meeting invitation Sanders notes:
“We all know that there are a number of fair and progressive ways to address the deficit crisis that would not harm the middle class and those who have already lost their jobs, homes, life savings and ability to send their kids to college” … The time has come to put these proposals into a package so that the progressive view becomes a part of the national discussion.”
