The Election Ballot

The first office on the ballot in this election is President. Candidates for President and Vice President run as a team so their names appear together on the ballot. There are candidates from four political parties this year. This is how the names appear on the ballot:

Clinton and Kaine – Democrat

Stein and Baraka –    Green-Rainbow

Johnson and Weld –  Libertarian

Trump and Pence –   Republican

This year we also vote for Representative in Congress. The person elected will represent us in Congress in Washington. There are two candidates:

Councillor is also on the ballot. This is not Lowell City Council. It is Governor’s Council. There are 8 Governor’s Councillors. Their main duty is to confirm judges appointed by the Governor. The two candidates are:

Richard Baker – Republican

Senator in General Court is the person who represents us in the Massachusetts State Senate in Boston. There is only one candidate: Eileen Donoghue – Democrat

Representative in General Court is the person who represents us in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Lowell has three State Representative Districts. In the 18^th Middlesex District which is the Highlands and the Acre, there are two candidates:

Rady Mom –               Democrat

Kamara “Kam” Kay – Republican

In the 16^th District, which is Centralville and Pawtucketville, there is only one candidate running:

Thomas Golden – Democrat.

In the 17^th District, which is Belvidere and Downtown, there is only one candidate running:

David Nangle – Democrat.

Finally, the office of Middlesex County Sheriff is on the ballot. There is only one candidate running:

Peter Koutoujian – Democrat.
