Congratulations, Bob Dylan for Earning the Nobel Prize in Literature
Today’s Nobel Prize-winner Bob Dylan in Lowell in November, 1975, is seen below with fellow poet Allen Ginsberg at the Edson Cemetery grave of Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), whose writings influenced the young Dylan. Bob Dylan brought his Rolling Thunder Revue to Lowell in tribute to Kerouac and performed with his troupe, including Joan Baez and Roger McGuinn, in the Costello Gym of the new University of Lowell. He stayed in the city an extra day to tour Kerouac literary sites, where he filmed scenes for his movie “Renaldo and Clara.” He has returned to Lowell regularly to play at the Tsongas Center of UMass Lowell. There’s a rumor that he visits the grave each time he swings through the city.
