Our Art Alive! committee has finalized plans for the May Art & Crafts Festival for Monday, May 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at JFK Plaza in conjunction with Loell Festival ’81. There will be music, poetry readings, food, and our artists as the main attraction. We are aiming at a relaxed atmosphere for our visitors to browse around in. [Note that the Art & Crafts Festival planned for 81 10-foot spaces for artists and craftspeople—-81 spaces.] ….
Show Your Best: Arts Alive! is sponsoring its first annual juried art show. The show will not only be juried but also judged with awards [$200 for Best in Show, $100 for 1st Place, $75 for 2nd Place, $50 for Honorable Mention] ….
Womenergy Conference Exhibit: An exhibit of donated artwork by local artists will open at the Art Alive! Gallery on March 20 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The show will continue until April 1 and then will move to the conference area at the University of Lowell on April 11. On that day, the University will host a raffle of the work with the proceeds going to Womenergy. …
Farmers and Artists Market: Art Alive! will join forces with the Community Food and Nutrition Program of Community Teamwork Inc. for the summer. As of now the markets will be held every Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the set-up fee will be $1 per week to help with publicity costs; participating artists and craftspeople should make a commitment of several weeks. ….

[Insert flier]: Lowell Food Coop. We add our weekly food orders together and buy wholesale in quantity. Then we do the work ourselves, like weighing, pricing, and bagging the food. In a store, you aren’t just paying for food, but all these services. In a coop, members work about two hours a month. You can save between 10 percent and 40 percent on such items as fruit, cheese, vegetables, bread, and grains. Open Wednesdays in the basement of St Peter’s Church, 327 Gorham St. Everybody is welcome. Come and check it out. We hope we’ll be seeing you.
Curator Needed: David Ray will be taking his vacation from March 23 to April 3. We will need volunteer help to keep the gallery open ….
Mmm…mmm….Good: Since cooking is an art, we must have many chefs! Please help Sandra Kavanaugh, our refreshment coordinator, cook something for the March 3 meeting. And a thank you to Sandra for the delicious homemade cookies that were devoured at our last meeting.
Coming Attractions: In an effort to be a showcase for as many forms of art as possible, Art Alive! would like to put together a festival of films by “local” filmmakers. If you have a film (20 minutes or longer) or know someone who does, call David Ray ….
