Harry Allen Field

Harry Allen Field – at St. Louis Field – Joseph H. “Harry” Allen was known as the “King of Softball” in Lowell and had 1500 wins as a pitcher over a 20-year career. His teams won state championships in 1953 and 1956. He pitched the first night softball game at St. Louis Field. He was born on June 17, 1923 and died on April 3, 1980. He had been employed by Reiss Associates and then Interstate Container Company. He was survived by his wife Rosann, two sons and three daughters.

    Reading about these squares, fields and places show what a treasure trove Lowell’s urban landscape is. Those remembered in the city’s hundreds of nooks and street corners make for an astoundingly diverse assembly. There lies Lowell’s history – in all of its people, past and present!
