Results of 5th Congressional District special election primaries

With 90% of the vote counted, the AP has called both the Democratic and Republican primary races, projecting State Senator Katherine Clark as the Democratic winner and Boston real estate attorney Frank Addivinola as the Republican nominee. With Peter Koutoujian finishing second, he will presumably remain as the Sheriff of Middlesex County which means that office will not be on the ballot in next fall’s state election.

Here are the results with 90% of the votes counted:

Katherine Clark – 31% – 19,225 votes
Peter Koutoujian – 21% – 12,843 votes
Carl Sciortino – 17% – 10,191 votes
Karen Spilka – 14% – 8,882 votes
Will Brownsberger – 14% – 8,702 votes
Paul John Maisano – 2% – 1,379 votes
Martin Long – 1% – 379 votes

Republicans
Frank Addivinola – 48% – 4,329 votes
Mike Stopa – 26% – 2,352 votes
Tom Tierney – 26% – 2,311 votes
