In the Merrimack Valley: Andover Frustrated ~ Few Facts about Slots Fall-out
The Eagle-Tribune is reporting today that officials in the Town of Andover – a definite stakeholder in the fall-out from the SLOTS casino planned for North Tewksbury – are frustrated at the lack of information on the proposal so they can assess the possible impacts on the community. Andover has been officially designated as a “bordering community” which could allow them mitigation money. Solid information from the gaming company – Penn National as well as from the Town of Tewksbury – is hard to come by. Time is short for doing impact studies. One official – Town Counsel Tom Urbelis – put it very bluntly as he expressed his view about one possible problem – traffic:
“It’s garbage in garbage out,” he said. “They have not disclosed a lot of information upon which we can base the study. The traffic people don’t know the scope. The planning board doesn’t have the plans yet. That’s going to be a big obstacle for us moving forward.”
