The (Paul) Krugman Blues

This past Monday while at the lunchtime lecture at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, I ended up at the same table as the main speaker, Professor Karl Case. Besides previewing his remarks to the entire crowd, Professor Case mentioned a singer he enjoys by the name of Loudon Wainwright III. Although Wainwright is a Grammy Award winner, I confess unfamiliarity with his work. Case urged me to track down his most famous song, “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road” and his recently released album, “10 Songs for the New Depression.” Here are the titles of those ten songs:

“Times Is Hard”
“House”
“On to Victory, Mr. Roosevelt” (W. Lee O’Daniel)
“Fear Itself”
“The Panic Is On” (Hezekiah Jenkins)
“The Krugman Blues”
“Halloween 2009”
“Middle of the Night”
“Cash for Clunkers”
“Got a Ukulele”

Below is a video of Wainwright performing “The (Paul) Krugman Blues”
