Church fire traps 2 Lowell firefighters
Thanks to WHDH-TV channel 7 for this report on a fire at Lowell’s Holy Family Church (also known as St Marie’s Church, located on Chamberlain Street near the Woburn Street exit of Rte 495) that trapped two firefighters in a smoke-filled basement. Fortunately, they were quickly rescued by their comrades:
In the “Beating a Dead Horse” Category I offer the following.
The closest fire engine (E11) on Lawrence Street was closed at the time of the fire. Wonder what the conversation would be if those guys hadn’t gotten out safely?
Hope the parish can repair the damage and get back to normal as quickly as possible.
Jason, thanks for reminding us of the on-going staffing issues. It’s a reminder that cuts to local government have a price: sometimes it’s inconvenience; sometimes it’s lives at risk. Many folks too often forget that there’s a trade off.
