New Trolley Signals in Lowell
New trolley signals are being installed at the corner of Market and Dutton Streets in Lowell by the Park Service. This video explains the work nicely.

New Trolley crossing signage in downtown Lowell, MA. Safety motor vehicles, pedestrians and electric trolleys
I noticed those the other day and was wondering – thanks!
Why are we putting in international signals? Are foreigners driving the trolleys? Shouldn’t Americans who know red, yellow and green be driving these trolleys.?
Did this international signal cost more or less than traditional American signals?
I think its pretty obvious that they couldnt put a red, yellow, and green stop light for the trolley right next to a red, yellow and green stop light for the automobiles without being confusing to some driver.
That is a reasonable explanation.
What kind of lights do they have for the green line tram on Commonweath Ave. ?
What we just put up in Lowell. This is actually Beacon St, I didn’t see any extra signals on Comm Ave. I forget how it works there (dedicated light cycles?)

Thank you Cory . That answers my question.
I just sent an email to Henri Marchand yesterday about the lights. I was prompted by a downtown resident who inquired why the trolley light was part of the light cycle during non-trolley hours. Apparently the NPS is working on that issue. I will link your story on LDNA site. Thank you so much for posting this.
