The city of Lowell and the Global War Veterans, an organization for those who served in the military after Vietnam, will dedicate a new Veterans Memorial at the Westlawn I Cemetery which is at 155 Boston Road (behind Edson Cemetery). Besides memorializing veterans, this site will also contain the appropriate structure for regular “retiring the colors” ceremony. Here’s the invitation to the event to which all are invited:

You are cordially invited to attend the dedication of a new Veterans’ Memorial Square in Westlawn I Cemetery.

This Memorial Square will be our location to ‘Retire the Colors’. This is the proper and respectful manner in which damaged flags are removed from service.
