Dracut High 45, Lowell High 35

In a Saturday night game that was not really as close as the score suggests, Dracut High School won decisively over Lowell High School under the lights at Dracut’s Beaudry Field by a score of 45 to 35. Dracut dominated through the first three quarters, pulling ahead 38 to 6 early in the fourth quarter. But Lowell ran back the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown and quickly recovered a Dracut fumble and scored again. Lowell tried an on-sides kick and recovered it, but the officials ruled that the ball had not traveled the required 10 yards (the WCAP announcers thought otherwise and felt the call would have been reversed if instant replay had been available). Dracut scored quickly, giving itself enough of a cushion to withstand a furious Lowell onslaught in the final five minutes of the game. Dracut won, but Lowell didn’t give up and fought back effectively which should give the team some solace.

Next week, Dracut plays Tewksbury and Lowell goes on the road to face Central Catholic. Thanks to WCAP for broadcasting this game.
