Celebrating Audubon at the Pollard Library

Audubon’s “California Partridge” from the National Archives collection

The Pollard Memorial Library is in possession of nearly one hundred original “Birds of America” prints by John James Audubon that were purchased back in 1880.  Now, the Library has invested in the archival framing of several of these prints.  These will be unveiled at an event on November 5, 2015 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Pollard Memorial Library.  This event will also feature a talk by Chris Leahy, the Chair of Natural History and Field Ornithology at Mass Aududon.

The Nov 5 event is co-sponsored by the Pollard Memorial Library Foundation and the Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust.  It’s free, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to info[at]LowellLandTrust.org.

This event will also kick-off a year-long celebration of Audubon at the Pollard.  In conjunction with this the PML Foundation has produced calendars and notecards illustrated with the prints from the library’s collection.  Calendars are $15 and notecards are $10 for a package of eight cards.  They can be purchased from Sean Thibodeau at the library or by contacting the PML Foundation at pollardmemorialfoundation[at]gmail.com.

I hope to see you all at the Pollard on November 5 for this great event.  Remember, support your local library.
