Echoes and Musings
“Echoes and Musings” – (PIP #70)
By Louise Peloquin
24-26 Prince Street did not have AI-powered software to set up L’Etoile’s layout. Ways to “meubler l’espace” (furnish the spaces) had to be found. Advertising was essential as we have seen in previous “peeks into the past.” (1) Jokes and humorous quips also served the purpose. (2)
The intricate tapestry of human nature was a goldmine of inspiration as the brief below shows. The Prince Street team observed the sincere deceivers, the diplomatic flatterers, the perspicacious artists and the solemn servants around them, took note and printed.
Do any of the lines sound familiar?
L’Etoile – September 9, 1924
ECHOES AND MUSINGS
A Few Current Lies
- I will pay you next week without fault.
- I shall never love anyone else but you.
- What a pity I did not find you home.
- I have never succeeded so well in my entire life.
- How good you look!
- I told her exactly what I thought of her.
- Yes Sir, the operation is necessary.
- I never would have thought that was not your own hair.
- I love to rock a baby.
- Madam is out.
- Only my devotion to the public interest has made me decide to run as a candidate.
- No, I have never kissed another. (3)
