Lowell Monuments: William Aubut Square
William Aubut Square – Broadway and Wilder streets – William Aubut was killed in action on February 23, 1945, near Selgersdorf, Germany, while serving with the U.S. Army’s 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. He was 27 years old and is buried in the American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands. Aubut was survived by his wife Doris, his 7-year-old daughter Donna Marie, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Aubut. He was a graduate of Lowell High School and worked at the Merrimack Manufacturing Company prior to entering the Army in March 1944. His memorial square was dedicated in 1947.
