Lowell Walks Summer 2015 Schedule
Lowell Walks is a series of guided walking tours of downtown Lowell on Saturday mornings throughout the summer. Each tour has a different topic led by a different tour guide. All tours begin at 10:00 A.M. from the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center at 246 Market Street in Lowell.

June 13, 2015 – Lowell Public Art Collection with Paul Marion and Rosemary Noon – In the 1980s, amazing sculptures created by artists with national and international reputations began showing up at locations near the canals in downtown Lowell. Each artwork in its own way is a commentary on one of the themes of Lowell National Historical Park (labor, technology, water-power, capital, and the industrial city). See the sculptures up close, hear about the controversies, and learn the story-behind-the-story of this collection whose commissioning value was about $1 million. Paul Marion is the Executive Director of Community and Cultural Affairs at UMass Lowell; Rosemary Noon is Assistant Director of the Lowell Plan, Inc., and a creative economy consultant. Together, they managed the design selection process and installation of many of the monumental works—and lived to talk about.
June 20, 2015 – Inside Lowell High School with Brian Martin – Founded in 1831, Lowell High School was the nation’s first integrated and co-educational public high school. Since then, the neighborhood has been transformed by new and revived housing and businesses with a revived neighborhood spirit. Dave Ouellette is the founder of ACTION (The Acre Coalition To Improve Our Neighborhood).
Dick, I have told you that I enjoyed your Tour of Lowell Cemetery on Mau 19th. However I did not tell that I was riveted to your every word. Not too much extra banter many dates and facts that it made the time go by very fast. Thanks again! I am the fella who got lost in Spain on the trip that your Mom and Dad were on with Fr. Gagnon some years back. Ed Duchesne
Wow what a great schedule. Thank you for sharing it.
This is awesome. Thanks for putting it together!
Well having the honor of starting this series, I am hopeful that we can provide similar quality (perhaps not as polished) to Dick’s tours. I will, however, have some excellent help in preparing our talk which will start at the visitors center, include Market Street and the old market district, the restored Old Firehouse hosted by the owners, and talks about Market Gallery lofts, the Bon Marche and St. Anne’s Church, to include a partial itinerary. The Lowell National Historical Park’s extremely knowledgeable historic architect, Chuck Parrott will be joining us. We will keep it fun and light so please come see us at 10 AM on Saturday, June 6 for a walk in the Park and stories of Lowell’s preservation success (and failures too)!
This sounds like fun. Is there Public Parking by the visitors center?
Free parking in Lowell National Historical Park’s parking lot off Dutton Street at Market Mills. City of Lowell garage on Market Street just two blocks from the LNHP Visitor Center.
How long will the August 1st walk be in duration and distance walked?
I missed the spring Lowell Cemetery tour. Please tell me you will be doing another one this fall. I have about 10 other people who want to go too.
There are about 10 of us hoping you will do another cemetery tour this fall. Please tell me you will be doing one.
