Real Estate 101: Adding a name to a deed
People often come to the Registry of Deeds and announce “I want to add a name to my deed.” That’s not exactly how things work. To grant someone else an ownership interest in your property, you have to create a new deed that conveys that interest to the person. You can either draft the new deed yourself or, as we strongly recommend, you can hire a lawyer to do it for you. This video, the second in my series on real estate law basics, explains how this is done.
