Joseph Albert Square

Joseph Albert Square – Worthen and Moody streets – Joseph E. Albert was killed in action on Iwo Jima on March 1, 1945, at age 33 while serving with the United States Marine Corps. Born in 1912, Albert attended St. Joseph’s School and worked at the Lowell Ordnance plant prior to entering the service. He was survived by his 7-year-old son Thomas E. Albert, his mother Alicia Albert, and brothers Leo and Joseph who was serving with the U.S. Army in Italy. Albert Square was dedicated in 1947.
