The More Things Change

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE

By Charlie Gargiulo

Poor Man walking down a city street, to a mission hall where he can eat.
At a light he has to wait for a limo with the right of way.
The Rich man inside is very late.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I said the more things change, the more they stay the same.

After dinner he must go back outside in the biting cold.
He looks up through the snowy skies, and sees a jet plane flying by.
The Rich Man inside is on his way.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
You know the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Poor Man sleeping on a heating grate, on an empty sidewalk very late.

His dreams take him back to a foreign shore, where his friends died hard in a dirty war.
While the Rich Man dreams in peace of making more.

Because the more things change, the more they stay the same.
You know the more things change, the more they stay the same.

His daddy told him long ago, that the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.
Yea, his daddy told him long ago, that the rich got richer and the poor got poorer.

Poor Man wakes to another day, by a gentle cop who moves him on his way.
Another endless day begins when he gets to a corner with a knowing grin.
As a limo passes by once again.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Yes, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
