Is Lowell a Happy City?
Is Lowell a Happy City? We’ll find out this fall thanks to the Pollard Memorial Library. This year’s Lowell Reads book is Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Through Urban Design by Charles Montgomery.
Lowell Reads is an annual effort by the library to create community through literature and reading. The 2012 book was Great Expectations by Charles Dickens; 2013 had a Micky Ward theme with A Warrior’s Hearty by Micky Ward and Irish Thunder by Bob Halloran; and 2014 was The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession by Mark Obmascik.
This year’s Lowell Reads will be a month-long undertaking with multiple events including a book discussion, a film, a panel discussion about Lowell Walks, a poetry and music event, and a Happy City block party.
Dates and details of the events will be forthcoming. For now, visit the Pollard Memorial Library and borrow your copy of Happy City or purchase it at Hypertext Bookstore Café or at other book-selling outlets.
