Green Army Men From Green Mountain State
A big thanks to the Vermont National Guard troops who worked like heck on Highland Street all day yesterday with front-end loaders and huge dump trucks to bash out the vast snow piles that had narrowed the street severely. They had a Humvee at the Thorndike intersection with a Guardsman controlling access. The two army-issue trucks circled continuously from the snow farm on the South Common back to the street. When I got home after 5 pm the entire Rogers School side of the street had been widened. Hat tip to Mayor Elliott and Manager Murphy, who put in the call for additional help on the snow removal front. Not to be overlooked is the continuous work of our own City workers and many contractors who have performed heroically during this blitz of blizzards.
