Purging Pawlenty

Here’s a pretty good commercial launched by the Tim Pawlenty for President campaign just before he dropped out of the race after his third place finish in the Ames, Iowa Republican straw poll on Saturday. While Pawlenty, before his exit, was pandering to the extremists who dominate the nomination process, he seemed like the most reasonable of the current group of candidates. Now he has been replaced by Rick Perry, governor of Texas, who just yesterday said that Ben Bernacke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, is acting treacherous and treasonous. Last I checked, the penalty for treason was death. Pawlenty out; Perry in. That was quite a trade.

Perry’s language was irresponsible, and unfortunate because the point upon which it was based, the present machinations of the Fed, needs to be made more clearly.

The Federal Reserve is not under the control of the US Government, though it prints our money and decides the playing field always in favor of its actual constituency, the big Wall Street banks. It’s something upon which both liberals and proper (as in, not populist Fox News hacks) conservatives should be in vehement agreement. Perry shot his candidacy in the foot, and nobody needs a president who is that careless, but his sentiment was not in the wrong place.

So Gov Perry was wrong, but it was OK for the President of the US Senate to call Tea Partiers “terrorists”?

As for Fox News, I am not sure that distinctions are of much value when talking about the MSM.  Is CBS much different in deviation from the center in terms of distance, rather than direction?
