Poetry fest coming to Lowell in October

The Massachusetts Poetry Festival will be held in Lowell this year on October 10-12.  Sponsoring the event are the Cultural Organization of Lowell, UMass Lowell and a number of other organization.  MassPOP website (the Massachusetts Poetry Outreach Project) has a page about the festival.

In his inaugural post on www.richardhowe.com, Paul Marion puts the upcoming (Oct 10-12) Poetry Festival in a broader context and gives many details about that weekend’s events.  Here’s a link to Paul’s post and here’s some of what he writes:

So, what’s going on with this emphasis on poetry and writing? At bottom it is about turning a spotlight on writing, reading, critical thinking, imagination and invention and inspiration. It’s about making community life more meaningful and uplifting. It’s about bringing people together to talk, listen, and share what they are thinking and feeling. We write to understand ourselves and our world, to put our sense of it into words so we can exchange our version with others.

Paul Marion writes about Harry de Metropolis, a 1931 graduate of Lowell High and a 1939 graduate of West Point who published a book of poetry called “Love and War” in the arly 1950s.
