Greater Lowell Area Democrats

Who we are:  Greater Lowell Area Democrats is a working coalition of city and town Democratic committees united for political action and dedicated to furthering the ideals of the Democratic party. GLAD is rooted in the elected area committees with members elected or appointed by their respective committees. In addition to the Chairs, appointed members and alternates, GLAD is supported by an active group of associate members. Membership is also extended to all area members of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee.

What we do: To further its goals of information, advocacy and visibility as well as activism for the Democratic agenda, Greater Lowell Area Democrats hosts and sponsors forums, debates, caucuses, regional meetings and hearings.

What we represent: As an area of influence, the group has chosen a pattern of towns that are served by local radio, television, cable access and newspaper media rather than the traditional political boundaries defined by ever-changing senatorial and representative districts. GLAD communities include: Bedford, Billerica, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Dracut, Groton, Lowell, Pepperell, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro and Westford.

When we meet: Regular GLAD breakfast meetings are generally scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of the month. There are no meetings scheduled for July and August while meetings in November and December may be joint with the Lowell Democratic City Committee. Meetings are scheduled for 8:00 AM. New venue - As of September 2008 regular meetings will be held at the Radisson Hotel & Suites Chelmsford in the Independence Grill meeting room. A continental breakfast will be available. Elected officials, candidates and guests are welcome. The Radisson is handicapped accessible.

Scheduled Meetings: In 2008 - September 20, October 18, November 8 (tentative)

Annual Brunch: The 2008 Annual Fall Brunch with Distinguished Democrat Awards is scheduled for Sunday October 26, 2008 at 10:00AM at Lenzi’s in Dracut. Tickets are $30 per person and will be available in September.  2008 Distinguished Democrats TBA.

Annual Distinguished Democrat Awards: GLAD  honors Distinguished Democrats at the Annual Fall Brunch.  This award is given “in recognition of higher dedication to the Democratic Party and further for commitment to its ideals, principles and goals.” Nominations are made in writing and are due at the end of July. Affiliations: Greater Lowell Area Democrats is an authorized regional group of the Massachusetts Democratic Party.
