‘Pawtucket Prism’ Sculpture Renewal

Artist Michio Ihara of Concord, Mass., is in the city this week with his team working on the renewal of his “Pawtucket Prism” sculpture at the Lower Locks canal complex overlooking the Concord River and Pawtucket Canal, right by the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center. Here are some in-progress photos of the renovation of the kinetic artwork whose steel cubes sway in the wind. The work should be completed in a few days. “Pawtucket Prism” (1987) was the second monumental sculpture to be installed as part of the Lowell Public Art Collection, created in the 1980s and ’90s.
