Notes

  • Incumbents Steve Gendron and Matt Donahue did not seek re-election.

  • The Lowell Sun attributed incumbent Larry Martin's defeat, in part, to his failure to participate in controversial votes on the arena and ballpark due to a conflict - he was employed by UMass Lowell, a part owner of both facilities.

  • Newcomer Dan Leahy was elected after leaving the state senate after two terms in fulfillment of his self-imposed term limit promise.  (State representative and former school committee member Steve Panagiotakos was elected to replace Leahy in the state senate after defeating city councilor Matt Donahue in the Democratic primary).

  • Eileen Donoghue was elected mayor.  Brian Martin was city manager.

  • Newcomer Kevin McHugh joined incumbents Tim Golden, George Kouloheras, Kathryn Stoklosa, Regina Faticanti & Bill Taupier on the school committee.  Joe Mendonca finished seventh.

  • Incumbent school committee member Michael Gallagher did not seek re-election and Bob Hoey ran (unsuccessfully) for the city council.
