  • Incumbent councilors Carney, Downes & Mayor Ellen Sampson failed to win re-election.

  • Edward Early elected mayor unanimously.  

  • City Manager P. Harold Ready retired in November 1966.  He was replaced by city treasurer Charles Gallagher who was elected manager in November 1966.

  • School committee winners were Bendan Farrington, Paul Robinson, Clement McDonough, Arthur McGlinchey, James McMahon & Helen Droney. 

  • Voters also "ruled out any hope for a regional trade school for years to come."

  • From the Nov 3, 1965 Lowell Sun: "After a brisk beginning, the level of voter turnout slumped to an unexpected low of 32,968, almost 3,000 below the figure forecast by election officials."
