Lowell: Looking for Nominees for Awards in Historic Preservation and Culture

In order to recognize the city of Lowell’s continual progress, Lowell Heritage Partnership and the Lowell National Historical Park are seeking nominations from the community to acknowledge the contributions of organizations or individuals in the areas of historic preservation and cultural heritage. As noted by Park Superintendent Michael Cressey: “These awards are given in the spirit of past preservationists such as Senator Paul Tsongas, educator Patrick Mogan, and others. The Heritage Partnership and Park intend to promote stewardship of these ideals for the benefit of future generations.”
Nominees should represent an individual or organization that has demonstrated significant voluntary contributions of time and effort to project participation and leadership. These two fields represent the important nature of the Park’s dual mission to “preserve and interpret the nationally significant historical and cultural sites” in Lowell. Two awards will be presented in each field, one to an enrolled high school or college student and one from the broader community nominees. Referring to the awards, Lowell Heritage Partnership president, Richard Lockhart stated, “It is an honor for the Lowell Heritage Partnership to again participate in the awarding of these historic preservation and cultural awards that are presented to deserving individuals and organizations that uphold the ideals we so strongly believe in.”
Nominations will be accepted through Friday March 5, 2010. For more information check the LNHP website at: http://www.nps.gov/lowe/parknews/2010-annual-awards-in-historic-preservation-and-culture.htm
The award recipients will be announced at the third annual Lowell Preservation and Cultural Heritage Awards Reception as part of Doors Open Lowell on Thursday, May 13, 2010.

I would recommend Paul Marion, bard of Lowell on Merrimack, or Rosemary Noon, who does “creative economy planning at The Lowell Plan. Both have the spirit of Lowell in their DNA and, both professionally and personally, contribute to the advancement of their hometown.
