Last night the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen interviewed two finalist for the job of town manager. Interviews started at 7:00PM and were held at the town hall. First up was Executive Vice President of Operations at Devens, Richard Montuori. Montuori formerly served as Town Manager in Billerica and is very familiar with the Merrimack Valley…and it showed. His answers made frequent reference to successful approaches he used in his former job. The Board interviewed Swampscott Town Administrator, Andrew Maylor second. Maylor lacked Montuori’s first hand knowledge of the area but his answers showed he had done ample research on the problems and needs of Tewksbury . Board Chairman Todd Johnson did and excellent job keeping the interviews on track and on schedule. Each interview lasted almost exactly one hour and the questions and answers were free flowing, thanks to Johnson. Selectmen questioned the two candidates on a wide range of topics…dealing with staff, dealing with the school department, the role and qualification of an assistant town manager and of course, town finances. In my opinion the two candidates did and excellent job and both seem well qualified to handle the job in Tewksbury. I don’t envy the Tewksbury Board of Selectmen. They’ve got their work cut out for them deciding between these two highly qualified professionals. Right now there is no scheuled date for appointment.
