This is a fascinating video of President Lyndon Johnson signing the Civil Rights Act on July 2, 1964. Ten years earlier the United Sates Supreme Court in Brown v the Board of Education ruled that racially segregated schools were unconstitutional paving the way for this historic legislation. Johnson signed the bill at the White House during a nationally televised event. The President used 75 pens. He can be seen in this video giving them away to prominent guests and elected officials. Some people you’ll recognize besides Johnson are Hubret Humphrey and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr…see if you can name others.

Consider this a public notice to all Lowell Candidates to attend a Centralville Neighborhood Action Group (CNAG) meeting(s) which are held on the 3rd Monday of every month, except December. Prior to the November election, meetings will be on 7/20, 8/17, 9/21 & 10/19. The next two meetings, July & August will be held at the Dom Polski Club on Coburn Street, starting promptly at 6:30pm.
CNAG will be treating this with an “Open Door Policy”, giving candidates a 10 minute “Hi, my name is____. I’m running for _____.” Please be prepared to answer a couple of random questions from the audience in this time.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me, John Mitchell, aka Jack (sleeping.giant.stirs@gmail.com) or contact your friendly CNAG POC.
PS. This was planned for City Council candidates, but I don’t see the harm in opening it up to others running in city wide races. If CNAG gets over run with hopefuls, we will take folks on a first come first serve basis, reserving the right to ask a candidate to come back the following month. We will do our best to give everyone a chance to speak, if they show up. However, if the night goes long, it is best to let folks go home, then to keep them too long. Take my word on that.;v)

A sign of the times: LBJ took the top off an ink bottle before signing with those nibbed-pens.He deftly handle the signing and pen distribution. I also see NAACP’s Roy Wilkins, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, Bobby Kennedy, and was that Sen. Jacob Javits? I read that one of the “signing pens” is worth $6,000 today.
OTHERS IN THE VIDEO INCLUDE CHARLES(CHARLIE) HALLECK(IND.-R), EMMANUEL(MANNY) CELLAR(NY-D),PETER RODINO(NJ-D). BOBBY KENNEDY ALSO CAN BE SEEN. LBJ SAYS “HELLO EDGAR” - HOOVER IS ON THE FAR LEFT(IN THE VIDEO). ALSO WALTER FAUNTROY(DC-D), STUART SYMINGTON(MO-D), JACOB JAVITZ(NY-D)
