And in Col. Chamberlain’s case, mighty fine example of a citizen-soldier who accomplished himself in the civilian/academic world but also got it done tactically and came home with the best decoration out there.
Good to see that we keep that tradition alive (or revived?) with guys like McMaster, Petraeus, Nagl, etc.

I want to see this movie
As a young Infantry NCO in the late 80’s, I read of Chamberlin in FM 22-100, Military Leadership. He is heralded as THE example on how to lead in adverse times.
Of all the American military leaders to choose from, the Army picked Chamberlin.
